Trump and UK PM Starmer on Gaza Crisis, Ukraine War, NATO, and Bagram Airbase
The American President, Donald Trump, discussed Bagram Airbase. He said he wants to retake Bagram Airbase, which was once the hub of the American military presence in the country.
Donald Trump and UK PM Starmer on Gaza Crisis
US President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a joint press conference in Buckinghamshire. Both leaders stated that they are working together to resolve the Gaza crisis and address the broader humanitarian challenges in the Middle East.
They stressed the importance of humanitarian aid, the release of hostages, and building a peace roadmap that ensures long-term stability.
Starmer said the goal is to bring Israel and the region back to a comprehensive plan that guarantees peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians. He added that the situation in Gaza is unbearable and that aid must reach the people quickly.
Starmer and Donald Trump on Ukraine War, Putin, and NATO
On the Ukraine war, Starmer said Britain and the US are united in ending violence and killings. He criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying Putin had shown his “real face.”
Starmer condemned the most significant attack in the war so far, highlighting NATO airspace violations and the deaths of many innocents.
President Trump also spoke about NATO. He explained that the US is supplying many weapons, while NATO is paying the full price. He praised NATO for raising its defense spending target from 2% to 5%.
On Russia, Trump admitted he was deeply disappointed with Putin. He said he once believed the Russia-Ukraine conflict would be the easiest to resolve because of his personal ties with Putin, but Putin had let him down.
Trump and Starmer Differ on Palestinian State Recognition
When asked about recognizing a Palestinian state, Donald Trump and Starmer expressed different views.
Trump said the Gaza crisis is complex but will eventually be solved. He also referred to October 7 as one of the most violent days in history, but he avoided mentioning the suffering of Palestinians.
In contrast, Starmer argued that recognizing a Palestinian state must be part of the wider peace package. He stressed that humanitarian aid must reach Gaza, and hostages must be freed. According to him, recognition should pave the way for both a secure Israel and a viable Palestinian state.
Trump disagreed, calling it one of the few issues on which he and the UK Prime Minister had differing opinions.
Trump on Afghanistan, Bagram Airbase, and China
During the press conference, Donald Trump also spoke about Afghanistan. He revealed that he wants the US to take back Bagram Airbase, which was once the hub of American military presence in the country.
Trump explained that the airbase is located just an hour away from China’s nuclear weapons facilities. He said this is one of the main reasons why the US wants to regain control of the base.
