CPEC Phase 2: Pakistan-China all-weather partnership
Islamabad/Beijing (Verified Insights PK) – Pakistan and China have once again reaffirmed their long-standing “Pakistan-China strategic cooperative partnership”, calling it an iron-clad and all-weather friendship. The announcement came during the SCO summit Pakistan-China meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping, held at the Great Hall of the People in Tianjin.
Pakistan-China All-Weather Partnership
Both leaders highlighted the Pakistan-China all-weather partnership, describing it as “unique, unparalleled, and vital for regional stability.” They stressed the importance of working together on economic, defence, and security matters, while also boosting trade and energy ties. The relationship, they noted, is not just between governments, but also a Pakistan-China community with a shared future.
Focus on CPEC Phase 2
A major highlight of the meeting was the discussion on the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor (CPEC). Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the CPEC Phase 2, which includes the expansion of CPEC with five new corridors. These corridors will focus on agriculture, information technology, energy, industry, and green development—marking a new stage in bilateral cooperation.
President Xi Jinping assured that China will continue to support Pakistan’s economic growth, particularly through infrastructure, technology, and industrial development. He also said China’s assistance would help strengthen Pakistan’s role in regional trade and connectivity.
Military and Strategic Cooperation
The meeting also touched on Pakistan-China military cooperation and strategic collaboration. Both countries agreed to continue close coordination on regional and global issues, ensuring peace and stability. The leaders highlighted that their iron-clad Pakistan-China ties remain unshakable, regardless of global challenges.
Diplomatic Relations Enter New Phase
The year 2025 will mark the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations 2025. PM Shehbaz extended a warm invitation to President Xi to visit Pakistan next year for the celebrations. Both sides also emphasized strengthening cooperation through global initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Global Development Initiative, and Global Security Initiative.
Verified Insights PK Take
At Verified Insights PK, we believe this renewed commitment reflects the deep trust and long-term vision behind the Pakistan-China all-weather partnership. With the CPEC Phase 2 moving forward and the expansion of CPEC with five new corridors, Pakistan has an opportunity to boost its economy, create jobs, and strengthen connectivity with the region.
However, the real test will be ensuring that ordinary citizens feel the benefits of this cooperation in their daily lives. Strategic ties and mega-projects are important, but sustainable progress will only come if these initiatives translate into real opportunities for the people of Pakistan.
